La Semaine de la sécurité des enfants passagers se déroule du 15 au 21 septembre

CHAMPAIGN, IL – Le Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) organise un événement d'inspection des sièges d'auto le lundi 9 septembre, de 10h00 à 13h30, au parking du côté nord du 201 W. Kenyon Road à Champaign. Des techniciens certifiés en sécurité des enfants passagers et des techniciens instructeurs par procuration seront disponibles pour fournir aux parents et aux soignants des conseils gratuits sur l'installation et l'utilisation appropriées des sièges d'auto. Aucun rendez-vous n'est nécessaire.

Bien que cet événement ne fasse pas partie de la Semaine de la sécurité des enfants passagers de la National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), qui se déroule du 15 au 21 septembre cette année, il reste une occasion importante pour les familles d’assurer la sécurité de leurs enfants dans les véhicules. Les accidents de la route sont l’une des principales causes de décès chez les enfants, et les dernières recherches de la NHTSA montrent que 46 % des sièges auto sont mal utilisés. Les problèmes courants incluent le fait que les enfants soient installés dans un siège auto inadapté à leur âge et à leur taille, ou que les sièges auto soient mal installés, ce qui rend les enfants vulnérables aux blessures en cas d’accident.

« La plupart des parents font ce qu'ils peuvent, mais ils ne sont pas encore sûrs d'eux », a déclaré Christina Ladage. « Ils peuvent donc être surpris d'apprendre que leurs enfants ne sont pas aussi en sécurité qu'ils le pensent. Nous voulons aider les parents à s'assurer que leurs enfants sont en sécurité. 

International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31

CUPHD to Provide Free NARCAN® Kits During Drive-Thru Event

CHAMPAIGN, IL – The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) recognizes August 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day. International Overdose Awareness Day is a campaign that aims to honor the many lives lost to drug overdose by raising awareness about the opioid crisis. Building upon last year’s success, where 440 kits were distributed, CUPHD plans to observe this day by once again distributing NARCAN® (naloxone) to community members, empowering them to mitigate the impacts of this crisis.

NARCAN®, also known as naloxone, is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. It works by binding to the opiate receptors in the brain and blocking the effects of opioids, which allows the individual to restore normal breathing and save their life. NARCAN® is safe to use on someone who is unconscious, making it a crucial tool in overdose response. If a person is administered NARCAN® and is not overdosing on opioids, they will not be harmed.

Champaign-Urbana Public Health District will distribute free NARCAN® kits at a drive-thru event on August 30, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Individuals can drive to the south side of the CUPHD building located at 201 West Kenyon Road in Champaign and look for the small shed. Staff will be on hand to provide kits and answer questions. By distributing NARCAN® kits for free, CUPHD equips the community with the knowledge and tools needed to respond effectively to opioid overdoses. This ensures that individuals are well-informed, capable advocates, and can raise awareness about opiate overdose prevention.

Residents Encouraged to Contribute Their Insights for Future Health Planning

CHAMPAIGN, IL – The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is issuing a final call for residents to participate in the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) survey, which will close on August 30. The survey marks the first step in developing a comprehensive Community Health Plan that will guide local health initiatives, services, and funding priorities in Champaign County.

The CHNA survey offers Champaign County residents a unique opportunity to share their insights and concerns about the health issues that matter most to them, directly influencing the future of local healthcare. The feedback collected through this survey will play a pivotal role in shaping future health strategies, guiding efforts to improve health outcomes, reduce disparities, and enhance the overall well-being of Champaign County residents. The surveys will be collected and combined with secondary data, with plans for the CHNA to be completed by January 2026.

The survey covers a wide range of topics, including access to healthcare, mental health, chronic diseases, and environmental health. Survey re-interventions and to inform decisions about public health programs and services in Champaign County, including allocating resources effectively, designing targeted interventions, and advocating for the necessary funding to address the community’s most pressing health issues. The survey takes approximately 12 minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
