Non-Safety-Related Voluntary Recall of Specific Lots of H1N1 FluMist
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District to Return H1N1 FluMist
Champaign, IL – On December 22, 2009 MedImmune announced that it is voluntarily recalling unused doses of 13 specific lots of Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 FluMist due to a slight decrease in potency. There is no safety concern with the lots that are being recalled.
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) and their community partners have been using many different types of vaccine from many different lots. This recall is not affecting anyone who has already received vaccination. If you or your child received the FluMist, you do not need to be revaccinated. The vaccine that you received is both safe AND effective. CUPHD and their community partners will stop using the recalled H1N1 FluMist now.
The slight decrease in vaccine potency is expected to have little, if any, impact on the response to vaccination. Revaccination is not recommended because the vaccine in the affected lots is still expected to be effective in stimulating a protective immune response. These doses were well within potency specifications at the time they were distributed, and in fact, some of the doses being recalled are actually still within required potency limits. In exercising the most conservative approach, MedImmune is recommending that all lots marked with an expiration date between January 19 and January 26, 2010 not be used.
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District will be sending back a little over 1,500 doses of the H1N1 FluMist. All of CUPHD’s H1N1 vaccine is safe AND effective. Persons who have not been vaccinated are encouraged to do so.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District to hold Smoking Cessation Classes
CHAMPAIGN, IL— The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is gearing up for its Freedom From Smoking® program to kick off 2010 starting on January 5th. The eight-session program is available to anyone 18 years of age and older who lives in Champaign County.
This unique program is designed for those at any stage of the quitting process that need some additional support. The program enables people to gain the tools that they need to quit smoking, develop an individualized plan to quit, prepare for trigger situations, discuss cessation aids and options, and to celebrate success with others who have kicked the habit.
The cost of the program is only $20.00 per person and the fee includes program materials and a four-week supply of Nicotine patches. Anyone who completes six of the eight sessions will receive a $10.00 refund.
Each session will meet at 5:30 PM for one hour at CUPHD, 201 W. Kenyon Road in Champaign. The upcoming programs will begin on January 5, 12, 19, 26, and 28 and February 2, 9, 16, and 23. The program will be also held at various times throughout the year. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.
