Food Safety

To operate a food establishment or food truck on a regular basis in Champaign County, an annual health permit is required.

To get an annual health permit for a food service establishment, like a restaurant or food trailer, the first step would be to visit our Plan Review and Annual Health Permits page.

We also issue Temporary Health Permits for short-term events like fairs or festivals.

We routinely inspect restaurants and other food service establishments. After we inspect a business, we issue a Food Inspection Notice placard in one of three colors, depending on the inspection results. Inspection reports can be found on our Food Establishment Inspection Reports page, where you can search for your favorite establishments.

If you need Food Safety Training to work in a restaurant or other type of workplace, you can take training online or in a classroom.

If you feel like you may have gotten sick from eating food from a restaurant or other food business, you should fill out our Illness Complaint form. If you have a different type of concern about a food business, such as unsanitary conditions, fill out our Food Establishment Sanitation Complaint form. Note: These forms are for businesses located within Champaign County, Illinois, including Champaign and Urbana.
